“In Japan, where society is experiencing rapid population ageing, it is critically important to ensure the sustainable provision of medicines and high-quality pharmacy services within local communities. Through our participation in the World Pharmacy Council, we expect to gain valuable insights from other member organisations that will support community pharmacists in Japan in delivering these services sustainably.” commented Susumu Iwatsuki, President of the Japan Pharmaceutical Association.

The World Pharmacy Council (WPC) is delighted to welcome the Japan Pharmaceutical Association (JPA) as our newest member, further enhancing the voice of community pharmacists globally. JPA's decision to join the Council will add significant value to our collective mission to promote international recognition of community pharmacy’s role and value, securing its position as a fundamental pillar of person-centred, sustainable and resilient health systems.
The JPA is a professional organisation representing pharmacists across Japan. Its membership is primarily composed of community pharmacists, as well as pharmacists working in a wide range of fields including hospitals, government, education and research, and industry. In Japan, as the declining birth rate and rapid population ageing advance, the environment in which community pharmacies operate is becoming increasingly challenging.
The JPA will actively engage in and contribute to the activities of the WPC by learning from other member organisations, while also sharing Japan’s experiences and expertise with the international community.
